GREG ARCHER is an author, cultural moderator, award-winning journalist, television host and motivational speaker. What he uncovers along the way fuels his mission to not only expose the nearly forgotten odyssey that befell nearly 2 million Poles 75 years ago, but to also expose the ripple effects that remain today.

Excerpt:

How had my family served me by example?

As I slipped into the front seat of my very low-resting Mazda Miata, cursing the fact that despite nearly a decade of Bikram Yoga, middle age was beginning to have its way with my Polish hips, I thanked the Universe for the interview. And, seeing that I had arrived at such a dramatic turning point—bored; how could you be bored?—I naturally asked for a sign on what I needed to do.

The broken picture frames flashed before my eyes.

I had been given a sign months ago. How many more signs did I need to receive? The message was clear: “Look at your family; look at their past.”

What? Did I want a much more flashy sign? Something like, “Hey, you’re going to be on the receiving end of buckets of cash if you turn right instead of left at the next traffic light?”

Yes. Yes I did want that sign.

Still, when The Powers That Be instruct you to do something, you must do it. I had avoided doing what I was told and now I was weary, tired, listless and unhappy.

I turned the key in the ignition and sighed in frustration.

How the hell did I get here?

An Interview With the Author:

1. How long have you been writing?
Since high school. I was a features writer for the high school newspaper and had a phenomenal journalism teacher.

2. How long have you been a published author?
For books, nearly 5 years; as a journalist, more than 25.

3. What titles do you have available?

Grace Revealed: A Memoir (A Hollywood Reporter Lays Bare His Polish Family’s Unlikely Tale of Survival During WWII)

Shut Up, Skinny Bitches! (The Common Sense Guide to Following Your Hunger and Your Heart)_

4. What made you choose the subject of this book?
Growing up, I always heard my Polish family talk about some of the things that they survived during the 1940s and I always wanted to learn more about what happened to them; why they were deported by Joseph Stalin, who, actually deported 2 million Poles to Siberia, and the events that happened afterward, all of which led them to the Middle East, to India and then Africa. Their particular survival story, as well as the under-reported story of Stalin’s mass deportations (which was 75 years ago now), intrigued me throughout my life.

5. Do you have any new titles coming soon?
My next book is called PRESS ONE FOR MORE OPTIONS.
It’s a memoir/essays about a befuddled journalist (me) trying to find relevance in a fading industry as he searches for “home.”
6. What is your favourite genre and why?
I used to love fiction – still do, because I love when characters come alive, however, I have found memoir writing and personal writing like that to be very transformational.
7. What, to you, is the most exciting part of the writing process?
The creative process… being able to bring things alive on the page; to get in the flow of things.

8. If you could co-author a book with anyone, who would you choose and why?
Possibly a collaboration with a photographer; and it would be about unique people and portals around the country with a rich rich history behind them.

In Grace Revealed: A Memoir, disillusioned Hollywood reporter, Greg Archer, is forced to toss Tinseltown aside and examine his Polish family’s mind-bending odyssey of the 1940s, thereby exposing one of the most under-reported events in history: Joseph Stalin’s mass deportations of Polish citizens—and the emotional ripple effects that remain today. But can a serendipitous journey back to Poland help the author on his quest to uncover the truth? Nearly 2 million Poles were deported in the 1940s, sent into slave labor in the Siberian gulags and later, left to wander throughout Southern Russia and the Middle East, their lives hanging loosely on a thin cosmic thread. Some of those refugees, like Mr. Archer’s family, wound up in Eastern Africa. With 2015 marking the 75th anniversary of the deportations, the opportunity to bring this remarkable yet under-reported story to light has never been so timely.
