BLURB: Fate brought them together. Lies keep them apart. Love could set them free. All they need is to trust in Bear Hearts. Fate has dealt bear shifter Martin Kruger and rotten hand. His destined mate, Dr. Elizabeth Montrose, is the enemy and suffers from a fatal illness. He‘s waited over two hundred years for a mate he might never have the chance to claim. Elizabeth has long ago given up dreams of love, marriage and children. Her life is her research and now that is gone in a puff of smoke, thanks to the bears of Honey Corners. A tiny spark of hope blooms in her heart when the handsome bear tells her they are mates, but will that instinctual bond be enough to overcome all that stands between them?

BookCover_BearsHeartExcerpt “More shifter secrets that the lowly human can’t know. I get it.” Liz looked down at her lap. The tiny seed of hope turning to dust and blowing away in the wind. She looked up at Martin and felt such loss. He was a beautiful man. Tall and broad, with dark brown hair closely cropped to his head and deep chocolate eyes she could get lost in for hours. He obviously had great sense of loyalty and honor, traits she appreciated, and she’d seen humor and warmth flash in his eyes, though briefly. As passionately as he defended his clan, or what was it he called it? Sippe? The fire that flared in his eyes when he was angry, Liz could just imagine that intensity turned into a different kind of passion. Turned into sexual passion, lust, maybe even love. To be the recipient of that would be amazing, but it would never be. Whether his goddess had deemed they were mates or not. Martin would never trust her and they would never be together. Martin must have seen the change in her mood, he put his dinner aside and moved to sit on the side of the bed and took her in his arms. “Please leibchen, please try to understand.” His eyes pleaded with her. “Give me time. Give us a chance.” Then he kissed her. A real kiss this time. He took her mouth like a starving man, devouring her will to resist and she let him. If this was all she’d ever have of him, she might as well take what she could get. As his tongue dueled with hers she allowed her hands to explore his upper body, sliding up his hard chest, over his broad shoulders and down his bulging biceps. She couldn’t get enough, wanted more, needed him closer.

The Inspiration for Bear Hearts Bear Hearts is the second book in the Animal in Me series. So, to understand the inspiration for this book, I guess I need to start with book one. The inspiration for the series is kind of a funny story. I was a release party for a friend and a guest author posed a question. “If you were to write a paranormal romance, what kind of shifter would your hero be and how would he meet his heroine?” I knew immediately that my hero would be a bear shifter, because I just love me some bears! But I had to stop and think about the meeting. My first thought was that bears loved honey and the idea of Bern meeting his mate over a jar of honey stuck in my head. That seed took root and I needed to write that book. As I was writing Hers to Bear, the supporting characters kept butting in and telling me they wanted happily ever after’s of their own. Now, how do you tell a five-hundred pound grizzly bear no? You don’t. So, one book became five and the series was born. In 2009 my mother was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Central nervous system lymphoma, a very fancy was of saying brain cancer. She was told she had six months to live. After undergoing chemotherapy, her tumor disappeared and she was declared cancer free. It was a medical miracle. Her doctor, one of the primer Neurologists in the country, had never had a patient live more than three years after diagnosis with this disease. My mother had made it five and still appeared cancer free. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. Just as I began writing Bear Hearts, Mom starting having symptoms again. Memory loss, slurred speech, etc. We took her to hospital. Her doctor met us in the ER and said he didn’t think it was the cancer, it had been too long. They suspected a stroke. But alas, he was wrong. After five years the cancer was back with a vengeance. She had three tumors this time, and again it was inoperable. They opted for radiation this time in lieu of chemotherapy, but it didn’t work. The radiation attacked her body. It made her weak and sick. She lost her hair, and started having organ failure. I lost her on Jan 11, 2015. All through this time I was supposed to be writing Bear Hearts. Good thing my publisher is kind hearted. I already knew that the heroine of Bear Hearts had Leukemia, but now writing the story was extra-hard. I had wanted the book to be an homage to my mother’s strength and courage in fighting her battle with cancer, but now she had lost. It took me a few weeks to get my head in the right place to be able to write the story, but when I did the words just flew. Elizabeth has all my mother’s strength, grace and heart. This book is dedicated to her and 10% of all the profits are to the American Cancer society. Thank you for letting me share the story of Bear Heart’s Inspiration with you. Happy reading. Hugs, Tamara
