Excerpt:

 Excerpt one from Book Two

They had been back on Long Island only a week when the earth quaked, shattering their peaceful existence.  It began slowly, a tiny crack on the surface, but before it was over, it opened into a chasm of such upheaval, such misery and strife; it threatened to swallow them and rob them of everything.

It started innocently enough, on a Sunday morning as Dominic showered while Paige cooked breakfast.  After pouring herself a second cup of coffee, she opened the Times. There, staring up at her from the front page were the faces of the two men, the ones who had confronted her in Salerno. She recognized them immediately.

In bold letters, the headlines proclaimed: “Bodies Identified as Missing Federal Agents.”    It was like being slammed in the chest with a bat.  Paige could hardly breathe and she began to shake violently.

*     *     *     *

This was how Dominic found her.  “Paige!  What is it?  What’s wrong?”

She gasped, “Them!”

“Who, Paige?  Where?”

She pointed toward the paper on the counter. “Them!”

As he rummaged through a drawer, searching for an inhaler, he glanced at the pictures and read the headlines, but he didn’t understand.  “What about them?”

He located an inhaler and held it to her mouth.  “Breathe! Come on, Paige, a deep breath in! Now! Again!”

He took her to the den and sat her on the sofa, wrapped a throw around her.  He knelt in front of her. “Paige, please, tell me what’s wrong!”

“Salerno.  L’Allegreto.  It’s them.”

“The ones in the paper?”  She had to be mistaken, he thought.  Why would U.S. agents have accosted his wife, threatened her?

“Yes, it’s them, Dom.  It is!!”

“But Paige, those men were federal agents.”  His mind was racing.

“I don’t care.  It was them!”  She was crying now.  “And they were liars!  They were horrible, evil men and I’m glad they’re dead!”

Interview with the Author:

  1. How long have you been writing?

What seems like forever. I have written poems and short stories since the age of nine, but A Separate Heaven is my first novel.

  1. How long have you been a published author?

Since 2010

3. What titles do you have available?

A Separate Heaven will be a series of seven books. The first three are available on Kindle.  Book four will be released by March 1st.

4. What made you choose the subject of this book?

It chose me. I began writing A Separate Heaven during a very difficult time in my life.  (My husband was in declining health for years) In retrospect, perhaps I simply needed the escapism.

5. Do you have any new titles coming soon?
Book four of A Separate Heaven is complete and will be released in March of this year. Book five will follow in early summer.

  1. What is your favourite genre and why?

Commercial fiction, because it more readily lends itself to becoming a television series or a movie.

7. What, to you, is the most exciting part of the writing process?

Character creation and development..

8. If you could co-author a book with anyone, who would you choose and why?

Today, Anna Quindlen, due to her ability as an author of fiction and nonfiction, plus being a journalist and a columnist.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Alex Disanti lives in the Texas Hill Country.  While writing has been a lifelong love for her, A Separate Heaven is her first novel.  Early works were mainly poetry and short stories.  As A Separate Heaven progressed from thought to paper, friends and family began reading the manuscript.  Then, in an effort to test the marketability of the material, she enlisted the aid of what she calls her “test readers.”  These readers vary in age, occupation and background.  It simply grew from there.  Alex’s rich detail brought the characters to life, and the ensuing chapters could not come quickly enough for her readers.

  1. I loved the first book! So descriptive and captivating, which characters are your favorite to develop ? Also would you ever want to see your series turned into a show or movie , with the way such detail can be left out would that bother you or would you be excited to expand into that market? Can’t wait to get my hands on book two!

    • To Booklover86: Thank you! Dominic Gianelli and his aunt, Sophia are my favorite characters. My long term goal for the series has always been a television series. I am not concerned about content. Innuendo works better than explicitness at times. Yes, I would like to expand into that market, for Dominic Gianelli to become a household name. 🙂 Thank you again!

  2. I have read the first 3, and I am on pins and needles waiting for book four. When I am reading these, everything else fades away. Due to the very descriptive writing, I can picture the storyline like a movie. No detail is overlooked in Alex Disanti’s writing. It is a great escape from reality, that’s for sure! I can’t thank you enough for all of the vacations I have taken in my mind, while reading ‘A Separate Heaven’ books one through three. Will there be a television series? It would be interesting to see if what I’ve seen in my mind matches what the show would actually be.

    • Hi Amy! You are my favorite kind of reader because you view A Separate Heaven exactly as it is intended, as great escapism. Thank you for appreciating the detail! I hope books 4-7 provide you with equally enjoyable vacations. Thank you again for your comments. 🙂
