51 Love

by Jeremy T. Ringfield

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: New Adult Contemporary Romantic Suspense
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

 This story is about Abram, a hopeless romantic who enrolls into college and begins leaving love notes for the girl, Jec, who works at the front desk of his student apartments. About why they know each other when neither have even met. That’s right, she had seen his face only two weeks earlier, when he tossed his book bag in the middle of the street, holding up traffic like a mad homeless man. But what she doesn’t know is that just before he came to grab his keys to move in, the handsome albeit strange eyes and the person they belong to had just been released from the county jail.

The jail cell talk without any cameras around to record make his last 51 minutes in the pen with a sketchy bunkmate a do or die conversation that may explain why he became homeless, why he wrote the love letters in the first place, and if both were random at all.

Excerpt

As I go to hand him his key and re-washable cup, I remind him that “the lobby coffee is free”, and he glances at my name tag.

I lazily connect my last sentence with the next, saying “Jec, for short”.

He pauses, then shakes his head and asks “What if I want to call you something different?”

I meet his eyes with a stare of my own, slow to respond, blink, and say “It will be okay Abram.” His face scrunches for a moment and his eyes look as though he is wondering straight through me. My glance falls deeper into the hole of an eye, and I see a marble in the night, the dark side of a full moon, which can be plucked right out of the sky to place a piece of the void heaven filled should I grab it and tuck it into my pocket.

The ascension falling as the walls collapse to drop a cloud in his ear, a long fiber weaves my wonder, wherefore out there did he discover?

And I conceived a thought of a single droplet, enough months from now, falling into a gravitationally absent drip time has lost, and him not.

Before I can tell if he eased his facial expression, he walks off keys in hand without another word.

“See, I told you. Killer” Bobby says flatly, and I just return to checking my emails.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Interview with the author:
What is something you’ve lied about?
My height. I say 6’5 but I’m really 6’4 and ¾.
Who is the last person you hugged?
Nikki.
What are you reading now?
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
How do you come up with the titles to your books?
Well, I think the blink was obvious. But the other parts of the title refer to an emotional justice that I seek to explore throughout the plot. Plus, I like the way Greek words sound when I read them.
Share your dream cast for your book.
Chloë Moretz as Jec, and Emma Watson in there somewhere. I don’t know who for Abram. Any suggestions?
Life as a Teenage Vampire
by Amanda Meuwissen
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE:  YA Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Emery Mavus just wants to survive his senior year of high school. Becoming a vampire complicates things. So does a bizarre mentor, a group of vampire hunters, and an unexpected, new attraction for his openly gay best friend, Connor. An occasional uncontrollable hunger for blood might be the least of his worries.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

mediakit_bookcover_lifeasateenagevampire

Excerpt:

It was a trick. Emery had made it all up, knowing that the details would lead Connor to vampires. These were just Halloween fangs. Connor wasn’t really hypnotized into submission; he was just stunned, believing his own crazy imagination. He’d longed for years to have Emery this close, after all, crowding him into a corner, lips descending. He’d just imagined them descending a little closer to his mouth, though his neck wouldn’t be so bad…

…if not for the sharp sting, the breaking of the skin and rush of blood sucked out of him so fast he felt dizzy, and then—wow.

It didn’t hurt at all. It felt like Emery was tucked into his shoulder intimately, fully aware of the pleasant buzzing he caused in Connor’s gut every time they touched. Connor had dreamed of this, imagined it just like this, and felt lulled by Emery’s body being so close, and the way he shivered feeling those lips on his skin. He almost thought he heard Emery’s soothing voice whispering affirmations he’d always wanted to hear.

“Em…” Connor breathed out, barely audible.

The room was dimming, but he felt cozy where he was. His arms were limp and heavy as he lifted them to pull Emery closer, feeling the soft fabric of the sweater against his somewhat numb right palm. He pulled tighter, twisting flesh and plastic fingers alike in the fabric, pulling…with the faint sense that he should be pushing instead.

“Em…” he choked out like a whimper, like he was crying. Why was he crying? This was everything he’d ever wanted…

Interview with the Author:

  1. How long have you been writing?

I have a box at home that I have called my treasure chest since I was young (just a cardboard box in actuality) where I keep all of my keepsakes, and in there are some very old notebooks from when I was single digits. So I’ve basically been writing since I was capable of doing so. I’ve been posting fiction online since 2000, and have been a published author since 2012.

  1. How long have you been a published author?

Creeping into my fifth year now, I have five published books. I hope I can continue that momentum of a book a year forever. I certainly am not lacking in ideas; I have far more than I can ever get down on paper. I had my break with a young indie startup publisher BigWorldNetwork, and have since started self-publishing. I am considering sending some of my smaller stories to an M/M specific publisher in the future, but will likely always do some self-publishing for the titles I want a little more control over.

3. What titles do you have available?

My first title was a novelette, The Collector, about the Devil’s bounty hunter having to deal with a murder mystery. First, all of his marks start dying before he can collect their souls, and then later even other soul collectors. I am best known for The Incubus Saga, an M/M paranormal romance trilogy about fae lore, a pair of twin brothers, one who is a changeling, the other seemingly normal, who then falls in love with an incubus destined to help then save the world from evil fae. And then Life as a Teenage Vampire is my fifth and most recent title, my first YA novel, still with a paranormal twist and an M/M love story, though tamer than my usual writing. I am hard at work on my sixth book, an M/M romance superhero story, that I hope to release this year.

4. What made you choose the subject of this book?

I am a life-long lover of vampires, ever since I was very small – I joke that it started when I was three watching Count Duckula with my older brother. I read the Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles when I was in middle school, and have a lot of references for this particular book. It’s in part autobiographical with many of the high school elements, but also got inspiration from MTV’s Teen Wolf series, the movie My Best Friend is a Vampire, and the book series Rainbow Boys. Bucky Barnes and his metal arm in The Winter Soldier also had some influence.

5. Do you have any new titles coming soon?

I don’t have a date down, as I am still deep in the editing stages, and I still need to plan out the cover art, but I am hoping to have my superhero title Lovesick Gods out this summer. It’s a very big switch from Life as a Teenage Vampire, as instead of paranormal it’s super powers and is a very heavy, adult story dealing with trauma and depression and betrayal that will turn people upside before it leads them to the light at the end of the tunnel. I am very excited about it.

6. What is your favourite genre and why?

I’m a sucker for modern fantasy and/or sci-fi and paranormal. I do tend to prefer modern or future settings to high fantasy, but anything that deals with things a little beyond our normal world is the most appealing to me. I love magic and mystery and fantastical elements. It’s what excited me as a child and continues to in adulthood.

7. What, to you, is the most exciting part of the writing process?

Those moments when it just flows. It’s a singular experience, like true euphoria. Everything comes together and the words hit the page like they were meant to be there. I love rereading those sections, rekindling that feeling of creating something beautiful.

8. If you could co-author a book with anyone, who would you choose and why?

Probably my oldest sister, Wendy Herman. She is also an author, and we have a lot in common with what we enjoy and some of our writing styles. I’m lucky enough that I am going to get to publish something with her coming up very soon, a long in coming non-fiction book with some anecdotes from tons of women I know, and she is one of them.

9. Where can readers find you on the web?

Google my name and you’ll pretty much only find me – Amanda Meuwissen. But I also make it easy by having a site at

Excerpt:

Hannah heard the key slide into the lock just in time to throw her e-book reader inside a dresser drawer and bury it under a pile of stockings. She whirled about as Joshua entered the room.

His face was grim. “For someone who doesn’t speak, you certainly provoke a lot of chatter among the community. Tongues are wagging about Mother Rachel’s last visit to you and the tragic aftermath. No one can seem to talk of anything else.”

The girl gave a slight smile and shrugged.

Joshua stared at her intently. “You think you’re clever, don’t you?”

Hannah regulated her expression to its characteristic blankness.

“You have them all fooled, not simply my father. No one can believe a child who looks so sweet and innocent could be capable of such monstrous duplicity. But you are, Sister Hannah, and I intend to prove it.”

The spymaster removed a small object from his pocket and set it on the dresser. It appeared to be some sort of digital recording device. He switched it on and then turned back to the girl.

“The Brotherhood is in crisis. My father has set us on a path to destruction and I alone can avert disaster. To do that, I must persuade the Diviner that I am the only one he can trust—the only one who has his best interests at heart. And you’re going to help me convince him.”

Worlds Reclaimed

by Maggie Mundy

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Paranormal Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

Clare and her group of vampires, fae and werewolves want to live on Earth. To do that, they must heal the worlds they have been visiting through the portals.

Vesi, is an albino vampire and Heln, is a white werewolf. Neither has been accepted by their people. This unlikely couple tries to fight their growing attraction to each other while helping to save two worlds.

On one world, a mist is closing in so nothing will survive. On the other, the High Priestess Sari is at war. Her power is failing and she wants to use Vesi’s blood so she can live forever.

Can Heln save his love and help his friends save both worlds. Will their group ever get to Earth?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
mediakit_bookcover_worldsreclaimed
Excerpt:
Heln ran across the deck as he watched Vesi fall. Everything seemed to slow down and yet he knew it had been only a second since the lightning streaked across the sky and hit her chest. It might as well have hit his chest, for he thought his world was being wrought in two. He knew one thing for certain. If she died he did not want to live. How could he have changed so much in such a short time?
He had grown up hating bloodsuckers. One had killed his mother and the pain still ran deep. He was a soldier and a hard man; he needed to be to survive. All his life he had been an outcast amongst the wolves and more than anything he wanted to belong. He always hoped when he imprinted on a wolf female, the clans would then accept him.
Heln knew that would never happen now as he felt the tug of his heart going towards Vesi. His yearning for her gave him a physical ache in his chest. His acceptance within the clans had always been tenuous at best. The clans considered a white wolf a bad omen and he would have been killed before now if he could not fight so well. His mother always protected him when he was small, but once she was gone he fended for himself. All his life he needed to prove himself to get respect and now would be no different. He would fight these feelings he had for Vesi, and not give up on his dream of being part of the clan.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

 GENRE: YA Fantasy

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Light In My Dark, is an action-packed modern YA fantasy, filled with dark forces, love, and self-discovery.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

mediakit_bookcover_lightinmydark

Excerpt:

With an arm out front as a shield, Jack pressed through the unnatural pitch-black, swiping back the grasping monsters. Up ahead, there was a change in the darkness, a lightening of sorts. The nightmarish dread clung to him as he fought to reach the break ahead.

And then he was through.

All around him was a world of twilight. Gone was the crisp autumn air of Glen Eden. Instead, the air weighed on his body, thick like that of a humid summer day.

“Harper?” he called out as he scanned the half-light of the night.

It appeared to be evening, dusk, or just after.

Nervously, he walked forward, stumbling a little as his sneakers caught on the flat stone platform in front of the shadowed wall he had just come through. At the end of the platform, there was a set of steps that led down into a grassy glade that was surrounded by a thick hedge of tall shrubs. Two great shadowy figures flanked the steps like ghostly statues of some ancient cemetery. He could not see their faces, for they were turned away from the wall.

“Harper? Are you there?” he called out again.

When no one answered, he crept forward and down the steps, eyeing the stone statues as he passed between them. The air became heavier, making him nervous, but he kept going.

Excerpt

My God – it’s the Lord’s wife!

Noiseless, he dives back into the bed and pretends to be asleep, the thin sheet over his head.

The Lady is wearing a luxurious dress in champagne shades, tight around the hips, sporting a generous décolleté. Her pearl necklace rolls over her tightened breasts all the way onto her lap. She casts the bed curtain aside and thrones herself on the mattress. The tight dress forces her into a straight posture. The scent of her opulent perfume invites Gawain, but he shallows his breath and remains stiff under the blanket. Quickly, she runs out of patience and pokes him. Gawain uncovers his head and fakes a surprise by crossing himself theatrically.

“Good morrow, Sir Gawain. Did I scare you?” She asks in a melodious voice.

“Apologies, my Lady. For a moment I thought I saw a gho … I mean an angel.”

“What a charmer! And so careless. Do you always leave your door unlocked? I could have tied you up in your bed.”

The Killing Game by The Black Rose

The Killing Game

by The Black Rose

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 GENRE:   Romantic Suspense
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

 BLURB:

The series opens as Ives Andrich, Special Agent in Charge of the New York Division of the FBI, is confronted with investigating the woman he has waited a lifetime to find. Because of her more than accurate novel about an Italian crime lord, the Bureau, against Ives’ wishes, asks for her help in infiltrating the internal organization of the nation’s most nefarious Mafia don.   When the Bureau’s plan fails, and she becomes dangerously entangled in the private life of the United States’ most wanted criminal, Ives’ tolerance for Bureau mishaps vanishes. No holds barred, he puts everything on the line to save the woman he loves in the first book in The Killing Game Series, a suspense thriller series by The Black Rose.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
mediakit_bookcover_thekillinggame
Excerpt:
What was it about this woman that controlled him? The way he felt, he could betray everything. He could leave all he knew and run away with her. To hell with the investigation, the bureau would drag it out forever. To hell with the bureau, he did not need them. To hell with Luca, let him cheat as many people as he wanted. Who cared at this point? Allina was his life, and he wanted nothing more than to be with her, to make love to her; his passion for her went beyond words, as he now spoke a language only she understood.
Leaving the vulgar world behind, his actions bore out his thoughts as he laid her back against the seat, effortlessly maneuvered himself on top of her, and kissed her devotedly. As he began to lower the zipper of her dress, he felt the car slow to a stop and so he zipped her back up.
The chauffeur buzzed the back telephone, which he ignored until it buzzed again. Maddened by the interruption, he pushed back a side panel and tore the phone from its holder.
“Not now! Drive!” he insisted, then he slammed the telephone back on the hook.
Without bothering to close the panel, he felt the car start to move again, and he sighed as he continued his pursuit of her love. No time remained for romantic words or prolonged actions. He needed to make love to her before his agents stopped the car and took her away from him for their mock questioning.
Why he ever agreed to these tactics, he did not know. He did not know when he would touch her again, or if she would let him, once she found out the truth. He longed to tell her what was going to happen, but he could not. His position’s responsibility immersed him in the case’s confusion, and he could not find the words to make sense of it all. Making love to her was all that mattered now, all that made sense to him anymore, all that was real.
He wanted one last reckless moment as that publisher from Manhattan whom she loved. He wanted to love her as Ives Andrich, the man she believed she had coincidentally met on a flight from Phoenix. He wanted to love her as the man he wished he was.
AUTHOR Bio and Links:
 The Black Rose is an author, photographer, and filmmaker. Born in Chicago, she currently resides in New York with the love her life, her Hokkaido Dog, Kuma. She began writing at the age of seven and dabbled until she woke up one day and simply had to write a novel. She has several 5-Star reviewed novels, both part of individual series.
She categorizes her novels very directly; “My writing is deeply rooted interpersonal relationships: people’s feelings, thoughts, emotions, and the intimacies between two people that truly love each other despite the circumstances surrounding them.” Her genres are suspense, thrillers, crime, romance, and espionage. As she says, “I write about love, honor, and doing the right thing, even when it seems disadvantageous, even when it’s not the popular path to take.” She sees her writing as a gift from God, and appreciates and learns from her stories.
Her writing passion stems from her immense love for art, which began with drawing at age five and moved into oil painting by age eight. Her love and study of photography soon became a professional passion, and she spends hours photographing and laying out her book covers. Readers can visit Privé with The Black Rose” showcasing behind-the-scenes insights into her writing, novels, characters, photography, and films. She films and produces her book trailers and, in the future, plans to make short films.
