Excerpt:

This can’t be happening.

The person sitting at our table was definitely someone I knew. Someone I actually had been avoiding for quite some time.

“Well, well. Good morning, babe,” the beautiful blond said to me.

I knew this guy. I’d constantly met him at bars and pubs around the city. He was always well accompanied by attractive ladies, but that didn’t stop him from hitting on me. Persistently, he’d tried for the past couple years to get my number and into my panties.

This beautiful man and I had a history…well, not really. We had a history of not having a history. He was an artfully known womanizer in the circles we frequented. Knowing exactly what I’d be getting myself into if I ever decided to tap that drop-dead gorgeous body of his, I had no choice but to reject him over and over again.

One drunken night I almost caved in.

Laura couldn’t be marrying this man.

“Oh, God. Not you. You’re a man whore!”

He stood as soon as the statement escaped my lips. He didn’t look offended. I guess he was used to my rejections by now. “Nice to see you, too,” the handsome man said. “I like knowing that you miss me.”

“Miss you? You wish! I can’t believe you’re marrying my best friend.” And I really didn’t.

“No offense, babe, but I’m not the one marrying Laura. I’m Ed’s friend. Name’s Josh, remember?”

Oh, right. Josh. For a moment there, I thought I had to talk Laura into canceling the wedding.

Tips to Plan the Perfect Wedding

By Kassandra Hope

Hello, everyone!

People are constantly asking me about how to plan the perfect event. Now, let me tell you… I’m no wedding planner. But I do have some experience planning all of my friends’ birthday parties, baby showers, and, of course, weddings. I have a Masters in Business and Procedure Management; and I consult businesses and individuals about their ISO certifications, process, and procedures. But, on the side and during my free time, I’ve always helped my friends plan all those special events (I’m well know for my numerous checklists and careful note taking). When Independent Authors invited me to write a post about my recommendations to plan a wedding I was thrilled and excited to do so. So, let’s get started!

  1. Time Frame

Ideally, you’ll have a year to plan your wedding. Planning your wedding is a big event. I would suggest that you at least have those twelve months to get everything ready. If you do not have that time, don’t worry, everything is possible with a little planning and the correct checklist. You’ll just have to get more organize and everything will be perfect.

  1. Budget and Wedding Size

It’s not easy to discuss money, especially budgeting. But it is extremely necessary. The first step here, is to talk to your bride or groom and establish how much money you’re willing to spend. And please, be aware that extra expenses are going to happen as you start planning, so play it safe and be reasonable.

  1. Dates and Venue

There’s going to be a plethora of things to consider when selecting the time and place of your wedding. Your work schedule, your parents availability, possible pregnant sisters, a brother travelling from overseas. But keep this in mind, this is your wedding. You should be able to decide and select what makes you happy. No matter the dates, no matter the city or country, no matter the place, someone important to you might not make it. Plan your wedding for you, the rest will fall into place if it’s meant to be.

  1. Other Events

You’ll think there’s only the reception to consider, right? Let me tell you that’s not the only course. The wedding is the main dish, if you’ll allow me to use that analogy, but with every main course, there’s also appetizers, side orders and dessert.

Consider what other events you’re willing to plan and host, I’m sure some of your friends can help you with the rest. There’s the  Engagement party, the Bachelor and bachelorette parties, the Rehearsal Dinner, and the After Party (also called Tornabodas in my friend’s, Marisol, Mexican culture). And that’s not even including events that are part of your religious beliefs.

Music is important in all of them, so make sure you have a plan for it, too.

Oh! And don’t forget to get your Marriage license.

  1. Guest List

It might be easy enough, deciding who is going to go to your wedding. That’s why Budget and Wedding Size come first, so that you have an idea of how many guest you can have to your wedding (and each of its events).

Think this thoroughly since you don’t want some people to have mixed feelings about not being invited (if you go for a small or medium size wedding). It’s always best to set the expectation from the beginning.

Once you have your list, it’s only a matter of deciding if you want to set a seating chart or not, and how specific you want it to be.

  1. Dress Shopping

Here comes the fun part!

Shopping.

Visit many places, look at many options, try different styles… go crazy!! But, remember, you set up a budget and you should stick to it (as much as possible). Plus, there are many things to consider: Wedding dress, bridal party attire, men’s formalwear, shoes, …. There’s so many other clothing and accessories to consider.

Visit your beauty consultant and experiment with different makeup options and hairstyles. You’ll never be too cautious.

  1. Flowers, Decorations and Wedding Invitations

They all have a place in the wedding, and they all depend on the Wedding Style you selected. Visit your favorite search engine to get ideas. I personally love Pinterest. There’s options for all tastes and budgets.

Invitations will be sent two months before the wedding. Whether they go digitally or in print, it is always a must to count heads and see who is really coming to your big day. Keep in mind that 30% of your family and friends may or may not come.

  1. Gift Registry

Always a fun part of the process! And the best part is that you can register in as many places as you’d like. Make sure to let everyone where they can get something lovely for you.

  1. Honeymoon

It’s always nice to have a nice vacation to celebrate your wedding. Believe me, you’ll need it. Even if it is a short weekend getaway, or if it’s a longer trip you planned a few days after your wedding, having a honeymoon is a must. You guys deserve it!

  1. Living Arrangements

Hopefully you’ve talked about it before this point. But if you haven’t…. Make sure you do. Nowadays must couples live together before they even decide to get married, but that’s not always the case. Are you renting, buying, staying at one of your houses, with your parents? What if the place isn’t ready on time??

Make sure you have this conversation before the wedding day.

  1. Rings and Vows

These are important and somewhat personal. There’s couples that decide to use something other than rings, and that’s entirely up to you. The importance it’s in the meaning behind them. Same goes for vows, don’t feel like you’re expected and pressured to write your own. Love is promised in many different ways, and it doesn’t have to be something that you do publicly. Talk to your partner and decide the way you want to approach this, and know that whatever you decide it’s the right way for the both of you.

  1. After the Wedding

Lastly, when you think you’re back from your honeymoon, ready to settle at home and relax, there’s still some wedding related stuff that you should do.

First of, open your gifts and I recommend that you send some thank you notes.

Is one of you changing your name? This would be a great time to do so.

If you’re into letting everyone know that you’re newlyweds, you can send a marriage announcement to your local paper.

And most of all, enjoy your new life together!

There’s many other things I could recommend you, but if I do I would need a week to do it. Remember, a wedding is about celebrating love and the happiness of a couple. If something doesn’t feel right, you don’t have to do it. This should be an event that brings your joy and merry memories.

Congratulations on your coming wedding!
